Maldives Climate Change Gender Action Plan 2026 – 2031

The Maldives Climate Change – Gender Action Plan 2026 – 2031 is a dedicated national framework aimed at integrating gender considerations into climate change policy, planning, financing and implementation. The plan recognizes that climate change impacts all, and that existing inequalities in accessing resources, services and decision-making spaces exacerbate the vulnerability, limiting adaptive capacity of women and other vulnerable groups.

The Maldives’ Climate Change Gender Action Plan (CC-GAP) has been developed as a complementary implementation framework to the Maldives’ National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process. The Gender Action Plan provides the mechanism through which gender equality and social inclusion are systematically integrated across climate change adaptation planning, implementation, monitoring and learning. In doing so, it supports the Government of Maldives in delivering adaptation actions that are responsive to the different needs, capacities and priorities of women, men and other underrepresented groups, while contributing to national commitments under the Paris Agreement, the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan, and the Maldives’ Third Nationally Determined Contribution.
